Le 29 octobre 2008, David Tennant annonçait officiellement qu'il quitterait Doctor Who après une série d'épisodes spéciaux diffusés au Royaume Uni en 2009. En France, la Régénération du Docteur a eu lieu le 25 décembre 2010, et avec le départ du Dixième Docteur, David Manet, voix française de notre Seigneur du Temps préféré depuis 2005, a également fait ses adieux à la série.
A cette occasion, Beans On Toast a souhaité le rencontrer une nouvelle fois afin de recueillir ses impressions sur la série, de mieux connaître ce Docteur de l'ombre et de saluer son départ qui marque lui aussi "la fin d'une ère".

David Manet : Yes, it happened once with the actor - whose name I forgot [René Steinke] - whom I dubbed when he played Tom Kranich in "Alarm for Cobra 11 – The Motorway Police". I was contacted by a French studio to dub him in a tv movie - which had nothing to do with Alarm for Cobra. But it doesn't happen very often. I wish it did!
Beans On Toast : Why is that ?
David Manet : For example, I'd love to dub David Tennant in the shows he made after Doctor Who. But it is already too late for some of these shows. In tv movies released after Doctor Who, someone else dubbed David Tennant. I wish it had been me.
Beans On Toast : What is your best memory of the dubbing of Doctor who ?
David Manet : What I remember best is the pleasure of working on Doctor Who, the surprises that came in the scripts and the quality of this show. I really enjoyed working on the series with David [Macaluso, artistic director]. At times, it was exhausting - really - and sometimes it was frustrating because we couldn't quite match the original performance. Doctor Who is very British, in the way it is made, in its spirit, language and energy. So, as a voice actor, you do get frustrated when you think "this is not quite as good as it could be". In a dub, there's bound to be a big part of betrayal of the original. But what I'll remember the most is what a pleasure it has been. I wish I could have continued to dub the series, even if I think Marc [Weiss, voice of the Eleventh Doctor] is doing an excellent job. I'd have continued - very gladly - for one more year of Doctor Who!
Beans On Toast : So you're missing Doctor Who?
David Manet : Yes, exactly. It is one of my best dubbing memories and something I am very happy to have worked on.
Beans On Toast : We've talked about it via email. You have dubbed a small part in Torchwood [series 2 episode 2, "Sleeper"]. How did it happen?
David Manet : I think it was an accident! I was contacted by an artistic director with whom I work sometimes and who likes my work. She wanted me to dub a guest star in this episode. When she contacted me for the part it did not occur to me to tell her anything [about my work on Doctor Who] so when I arrived at the dubbing studio, she was deeply sorry, she had just realized - or someone had just told her - that I could not be in Torchwood. So she told me "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, I don't know where to put myself. We'll try to give you another character, who has fewer lines, try to change your voice as much as possible." So I did that. But you still recognized me! Though you weren't sure [when you asked me] in your email. No doubt if I'd dubbed the guest star, you'd have recognized me more easily.

Bien sympa la vidéo ainsi que l'interview ! moi qui ai tendance a jouer au jeu du qui double qui quand je regarde les films ou les séries, la voix de David Manet est pas évidente a reconnaitre, hors contexte ! (contrairement a la voix d'emmanuel curtil (jim carrey) ou autres ...

Moi, je suis surprise dans le sens contraire : un comédien fait tellement de rôles... je ne suis pas étonnée
Et là il est tombé sous le charme je dirais, la preuve, il a acheté la série , d'autant que bon, je pense qu'en c'est comme en France, c'est pas une série très populaire...
Et je rappelle qu'Eccleston et même Matt Smith ne connaissaient pas la série ou si peu avant d'endosser le rôle, alors qu'en c'est plus difficilement contournable!
David Tennant, fan depuis l'enfance était une exception du coup, il ne faut pas l'oublier!
